We have a full time position open with full time benefits.  Minimum starting pay is $21.56 for applicant that has qualifications.

Heavy Equipment Operator

Summary

The operation of equipment to receive, process, cover and transport solid waste, demolition debris and recyclable material. Handling/moving material in preparation for transport to market.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Operation of heavy equipment. Operation of other equipment related to the job. Monitoring and spot checking of loads as directed by supervisor and notifying proper personnel if loads are unacceptable. Cover working area each day in accordance with MPCA rules. Haul and stockpile material used for cover and landfill maintenance. Haul material from public drop area to proper processing/disposal areas. Performs routine maintenance and daily housekeeping duties. Directs haulers and other customers to proper area for unloading. Works on special projects and performs other related duties as assigned. Assists in repairs. Prepare and maintain operations and maintenance logs and track supply inventories. Clean and organize shop and tool room. Maintain roads at site, including snow removal. Repair landfill as needed. Work at public drop areas, assisting and directing customers. Stockpile, maintain and process recyclables as needed.

Education and/or Experience: Requires high school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates. Licenses. Registrations: Type II Landfill Operator certificate must be obtained within six months of hire.

Other Skills and Abilities: General knowledge and skill in landfill practices and operations. General knowledge and skill in construction practices of earth moving. General knowledge and skill in surveying principles. Ability to read and interpret survey maps, plan sheets and some blue prints. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work with customers and answer questions in an amicable and courteous manner. Ability to work under both time and public pressures. Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with supervisors. Ability to follow instructions and set procedures for daily operations. Ability to use logical reasoning and manuals to solve problems. Ability to enter, store and retrieve information from a personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet and specialized software.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee
is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or
hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

This position is exposed to sharp items, broken glass and miscellaneous mixed garbage items and can be very dangerous and unsanitary if proper precautions and safely protocols and rules are not followed.
